| I grew up in a
household where my mother was a professional seamstress. I
learned the fine art of industrial sewing at a young age. After
high school I studied fashion design, but soon moved into
nursing. I worked as a registered nurse working in various
hospitals, clinics, and emergency rooms before starting my own
home health care agency. I later continued my studies and became
a Doctor in Natural Health
Over the past 20 years I have
worked one on one with people who have had special needs in home
health care, hospitals, rehab, assisted living facilities, and
nursing homes. I could see the tremendous obstacles they face
each day, many having diseases, disorders and surgeries making
them physically challenged. They are constantly being asked for
blood pressure, blood work, catheter changes, access to tubes,
lines, I.V., surgery areas and chemo-therapy. They experience
additional pain when asked to move or while being pushed,
pulled, or poked while trying to remove clothing to get access
to those areas, or they develop a break down of skin resulting
in bed sores because of an insufficient air flow to the skin.
While all this time they are usually non-discreetly exposed and
extremely cold.
I tried to find home health care
and special needs clothing for my disabled client’s, to make
life a little easier for them but that was hard to find. VELCRO® brand closures
clothing, and snap fasteners was even harder, and to find
something that had easy access, easy dress, easy care while
being fashionable was next to impossible. My client’s needs grew
and grew until, I decided to design clothing for the disabled
myself. After first re-designing client’s original clothes, I
started to design my own line depending on my patient’s needs
such as The
Back
Closures
Hospital Gown which is open in the back for
proper air flow. Also with the hospital gown I recommend
the
Faux Sheepskin Pad to put down on the incontinence
pad next to the sheet to increase the air circulation for people
that need help with incontinence and or perspiration.
Another popular item was the side
and shoulder snap all access
Side Closure Flannel Hospital Gown
for that patient that is having multiple procedures done and
need a lot of access to the body.
Another is the
Blood
Pressure / I.V. Bed Jacket
designed for the patient that is having chemo-therapy or an I.V.
or even trips to the doctor for blood pressures. They don’t have
to remove their jacket and can keep it on while having treatment
done.
Probably my favorite is my
Wheelchair Warming Pouch.
Boy, does it keep you warm and cozy even if you’re not
using a wheelchair. Also my Back
Closure Jumpsuit in flannel for those clients
and loved ones that like to get undressed at the wrong times.
I have devoted my life to
treatment, therapy, and assistance for patients with special
needs due to their health disorders. Much of this has been in
designing special needs clothing for the disabled. I also
studied Nutrition, Herbology and Homeopathy in Twins, England in
addition to achieving my Masters and Doctorate in Natural
Health.
I decided to start a web site at
www.docmae.com to make available
some of the more popular items and give everyone a chance to
find clothing for the disabled that has easy access, easy dress,
and easy care while still looking good. You too can improve
quality of lives by having clothing that is easy care and looks
good. Therefore making the client and / or loved one feel good
about themselves and how they look.
If you don’t see something that you’re looking for on this site,
just let me know and I will design something that will fit your
needs.
Thanks for reading about me.
Be Well and I appreciate your input.
